Hatha Yoga is a five-thousand-year-old practice designed to restore body imbalances and maintain health. It is just one of eight branches in yogic philosophy. All forms of physical yoga are Hatha. Ha means sun or masculine principle and Tha means moon, or feminine principle. Together Hatha is a harmonious merging of two opposites. Yoga means yoke, union and integration. By “yoking” or focusing your attention through applied effort of pranayama (breath control), meditation (mindfulness relaxation) and exercise (postures), you will develop a balanced and healthy mind-body connection. At its core, Hatha Yoga creates freedom and joy through discipline.
Hatha Yoga is a noncompetitive form of exercise. Therefore, it’s important to focus on your own practice in group settings and trust your inner guidance on how deep to stretch or if you need a modification. If there are any asanas (postures) that are uncomfortable or awkward, please ask for assistance. There are adaptions and modifications for all postures, so everyone can perform a variation and receive the benefit of yoga.
Dahlia is trained in classical Hatha Yoga postures as well as SATYA (Somatic Awareness Training for Yoga Attunement), Vinyasa (linking postures together with movement and breath) and Iyengar (emphasis on technical alignment using props and modifications).
This unique medley of training coupled with over 25 years teaching and practice, creates a special ability to work with a wide range of clients and needs.
